Areas of expertise

Well versed in commercial litigation and pre-litigation, Valérie Nicod represents Ydès clients before all courts (civil and criminal), arbitration as well as administrative courts, and uses alternative dispute resolution processes. She also assists Ydès clients in defining litigation strategies.

Renowned expert in civil proceedings, she has been successfully handling, for 15 years, business litigation cases, especially, matters relating to sudden termination of established business relationships, unfair trading cases, product liability cases, technical matters in construction law and partnership disputes.

Valérie Nicod has also assisted co-owners of buildings operated as residences of tourism against tenants in several class actions.

Professional experience

In 2002, she joined cabinet Duclos Thorne Mollet-Viéville & Associés in Paris and practised business law for 5 years. She then moved to the Lyon Bar in 2007 and worked for 3 years at DS Avocats. In 2010, Valérie Nicod joined Bird & Bird in Lyon and was appointed Counsel in 2014.

Educational background

Admitted to the Paris Bar, then Lyon, Valérie Nicod graduated top of her class with a specialised master degree (Master 2) in International Business Law (Paris V University – Descartes) as well as a post-graduate master degree (Master 2) in English and North-American business laws (Paris I University - Sorbonne).


Valérie Nicod regularly gives business law lectures to students at Lyon EM Business School.

She has also been accredited as a mediator by the CEDR (Center for Effective Dispute Resolution) based in London.
